The Rowan Month is part of the Squirrel Calendar, and lasts from January 21st to February 17th. During this month, garlands made from rowan twigs are brought into the home and placed above the doors to keep away any unwanted visitors. These are to be removed by the end of the month to prevent bad luck. In ancient times, squirrels would bury the bodies of their enemies with a rowan stake through the heart to prevent their ghosts from returning.
